I believe The Sims 5 base game is nearly complete, which explains Grant leaving.

He had been working on Project Rene (The Sims 5) since 2019, that's about 5 years folks!

We know they started developing the new game in late 2018.

My theory? The base game is very close to being complete and Grant Rodiek doesn't want to go back to the old DLC cycle. The base game is the most exciting part of the process. DLC are predictable, formulaic, and thus not very challenging.

I'll take any optimistic take on the situation.
